Our #1 Rule of Gown Shopping to Avoid Overwhelm

A bridal stylist assists a bride in putting on a veil at House of White Bridal Boutique in Newburgh, Indiana.

I try not to be too definitive in my bridal shopping advice…I like to leave room for nuance and every situation is different.  But in this one instance, I’m going to put it very directly.

My advice? Do not…under any circumstances, book three bridal appointments in a single day.  Generally I advise brides to book one appointment per day.  Go to the appointment, feel fully present in the experience, and if you don’t find anything you love and want to say yes to, then regroup and decide where you want to go next with a clear head.

I fully understand that sometimes there are circumstances that would require you to book two appointments in a day…let’s say you have a very important person who’s only in town for one day, and you have two stores whose collections you are really eager to see etc.  In that case, book one appointment in the morning, have lunch and take a break, and then another appointment in the afternoon.  But I promise you, three appointments in a day is too much…it’s too much mentally, physically, emotionally.  Your brain needs room to process, your body needs fuel and rest, and your emotions need to be handled gently to maintain any sense of joy surrounding your gown selection.

Overwhelm is the biggest enemy of gown shopping, so take it easy on yourself and set yourself up for success so that saying ‘yes’ to your dress feels like a triumph rather than a surrender.

So try that, and follow along for more gown shopping tips!

XO, Andrea
