Why Shop a Trunk Show?

A bride stands in a wedding gown in the main styling room of House of White Bridal Boutique in Newburgh Indiana. She's surrounded by her family drinking champagne and a bridal stylist helping her try on bridal gowns.

If you’re embarking upon your wedding gown search, chances are you’ll do a bit of research beforehand. While doing this research, it’s possible you’ll come across the words “Trunk Show”, and it’s perfectly normal to be a bit confused. Fear not! It’s simply an industry term for a particular event for saying ‘yes’ to your perfect dress! Allow me to elaborate…

We have an entire blog post explaining what a Trunk Show is, but I’ll give you the abridged version :) A Trunk Show is an event hosted by a bridal store which features a particular designer. The featured designer will send additional product to “visit” the store for the Trunk Show, allowing brides to shop even more of their collection than normal. Sometimes a Trunk Show will feature the designer’s newest collection, or often it will feature a “Best Of” collection, highlighting the tried and true styles from the designers’ entire career.

So now that you’re familiar with what a Trunk Show actually is, this begs the question: why shop a Trunk Show?

  1. The Selection

Let’s say you’re exploring wedding gowns on Pinterest and realize that there’s a common theme among all your favorites: they’re all by the same designer. Or maybe you’ve followed a particular designer on Instagram for years and have always responded to their vibe. Whatever the reason, if you’re drawn to a specific designer, then seeking out a Trunk Show featuring their collection is definitely the way to go! Let’s say on a given day that a bridal store will carry 10-15 styles from a particular designer. When hosting a trunk show they’ll have a dozen or so additional styles so you’ll see as styles as one possibly could (other than, perhaps, busting your way into their design showroom I suppose :P ). So for example, we have our Made With Love Trunk Show happening next month. If you’re familiar with the Made With Love collection and are interested in several of their styles, than this Trunk Show is for you!

2. The Perks

Every Trunk Show is a unique experience, but often while shopping a Trunk Show there will be a variety of perks to experiencing the event. My favorite perk? By saying “Yes” to your dress at a Trunk Show, you’ll be saying Yes to a gown that isn’t normally at that store, and therefore becomes an exclusive style just for you. It’s great for brides who have a very fashion-forward aesthetic, as gowns included in the Trunk Show are often unique, wow-factor pieces that dazzled on the runway, but aren’t for ‘every bride’. Also some designers will also offer certain perks when ordering their gowns, like discounted rates on customizations, rush fees, or accessories. Just check out the details of the individual Trunk Show as anything offered will usually be advertised.

3. The Vibe.

We like to think every day at House of White is a party, but we will admit that Trunk Show days have a little extra magic. When you attend a Trunk Show at a bridal salon, you can be assured that salon will be operating at peak performance. It’s always exciting to welcome new styles into the store, and the enthusiasm is contagious. After enduring the covid years of scaled-back appointments and limited guests, it’s so exciting to feel like we’re throwing a party for our brides again. Bring on the celebration!

As I mentioned, we’ll be hosting our very first Made With Love Trunk Show of the year February 3 - 11. This is one designer who always draws a crowd, so if you’re interested in attending don’t hesitate! You can request your appointment here! If there’s another designer who’s caught your eye, follow us on our social media for the latest on upcoming Trunk Shows and events!
