After You Get Engaged, Put This at The Top of Your To-Do List
After getting engaged, there are so many things that immediately go onto your to-do list, but this is one I always recommend putting right at the top. And it’s probably not what you think.
One of the first things you should do after getting engaged is create a wedding era playlist.
Here’s what to include:
1. A few wedding-specific songs
Think of anything that instantly makes you smile and feels wedding-related songs that capture that just-engaged excitement. You don’t need a ton, just a few that set the tone.
2. Songs that mean something to you and your fiancé
Maybe it reminds you of your first date, or maybe you already have “your song.” These are the ones that feel personal and nostalgic already.
3. Your “time capsule” songs
This is my favorite category. These are songs that are specific to right now, what you’re listening to on repeat, what’s popular at the moment, the artists you love in this season of life.
Once you’ve built your playlist, start playing it throughout your engagement. While you’re stuffing invitations at the kitchen table, driving to your bachelorette party, or especially while getting ready on the morning of your wedding.
Here’s why it matters:
These songs will forever be tied to this chapter of your life. Years from now, when one of them comes on in a completely random moment, it will instantly take you back to your engagement, to how you felt, who you were, and all the excitement of that time.
I actually got this idea from my sister. We took a girls’ trip to New York together, and she had created a playlist just for that trip. She told me she does this for every meaningful trip she takes. And now, anytime I hear a song from that playlist, I’m immediately taken back to that moment, and it makes me so happy.
That’s why I started recommending this to my brides.
Wedding planning goes by so quickly, but this is such a simple way to hold onto it. It’s a small, thoughtful gift you’re giving to your future self, something that will bring you right back to your “bride era” for years to come.
With love,
Andrea
