Planning Tip: Hold Your Inspo Loosely

Two bridal stylists assist a bride in a luxury bridal boutique in Newburgh Indiana.

Nothing gets us more excited before a bridal appointment than scrolling through her inspo/pinterest (virtual hugs and kisses to our brides who take the time to send it over prior to their appointment). And sometimes, a bride confirms that a particular gown is in-store for her to try on, because based on photos, she’s convinced it’s ‘the one’. And you know what? Most of the time it is! But every so often, a bride falls in love with a gown in a photo, and when trying it on it just isn’t it.

What do we do from here?

We’ve got this! We keep morale up, we keep moving forward, and offer some supportive and constructive options. Typically we start with pulling a gown with a similar style, but by a different designer. Because sometimes a bride responds to different construction on her body, and feels better in a gown that’s made differently than the original inspo. Another method we implement is trying a wild card! Often a bride just needs a mental reset, and by pulling a completely different style that - based on our professional experience - we know will look fab on her, she can let go of the gown she thought was going to be the one. And in the end, she always ends up with the gown that was meant for her.

So how can a bride avoid inspo disapointment? By collecting inspiration, and holding it loosely.

When a bride holds onto her inspo too tight - whether it be inspo photos for décor, gowns, makeup, florals - you run into the possibility of being disappointed if the outcome doesn’t match the inspo perfectly. Use your inpiration for just that: not literal translation. Your wedding professionals will appreciate the direction in terms of vibe, but can offer enlightenment on how to translate that inspo for you.

And in the end, you’ll create a day that is truly yours, and we promise it will be worth it.
