Engaged Over The Holidays? Read This Before You Try On Wedding Gowns!

If you get engaged over the holidays and absolutely cannot wait to try on wedding gowns, this is for you! Plunging into the world of wedding planning can create a sense of urgency — we totally get it! But sometimes jumping into gown shopping before you’re mentally ready can cause confusion rather than clarity. We have some suggestions for how to prepare for your bridal appointment, and how to set yourself up for success (and lots of joy!) in your gown journey.

For a lot of brides, wedding gown shopping is the part of planning they’re looking forward to the most. It’s exciting, it’s emotional, and it’s tempting to dive right in just to get ideas.

But here’s what we would advise you to do instead:

In the days and weeks following your engagement, use this time to build up your inspo. Start a fresh new Pinterest board and begin researching venues.

We generally tell brides to book their bridal appointment after they’ve booked their venue—and here’s why. Trying on wedding gowns can get overwhelming very quickly, especially without any direction, and it’s hard to have direction if you have no idea where or when your wedding is taking place.

Once that venue is booked, then book your bridal appointment. That’s when you get to have that amazing moment of trying on your very first wedding gown for the very first time. It’s magic!

The only exception to this philosophy is for brides planning to get married within six months of their engagement. If that sounds like you, forget what I just said and get your gown confirmed, booked, and ordered as quickly as possible!

Bottom line: diving into gown shopping before you’re mentally ready can sometimes lead to more confusion than clarity. Start with inspiration and research, book your venue, and then book your bridal appointment.
