A Wedding Day Tip To Help Your Big Day Go Smoothly

Today’s tip is very simple, and it’s all about bustling your gown. Here’s the truth about bustles: they’re absolutely essential but can absolutely derail the flow of your day. But fear not! With a little preparation and designated “bustle buddy”, you’ll be ready for the dance floor in no time.

If you’re not familiar, a bustle is the set of attachments added during alterations that allows you to pin up the train of your gown so you can move easily through your reception without dragging the full length of your train. Most gowns do not come with a bustle already inside—this is added during alterations because it’s specific to your height and your gown’s length. Here’s the crucial part:

At your final fitting, your seamstress will walk you through exactly how to bustle your gown. This is why you need to have a designated person there to witness how your gown is bustled. Even better? Have them take a quick video of the process, just in case a refresher is needed later.

Every gown is bustled differently. Some are done inside with strings you tie together. Some are done on the outside with hooks and eyes. Some gowns have one attachment, while others have five, ten, or even twelve to bring up all that train length.

That’s why it’s key to choose your bustle person ahead of time and, if possible, have them attend your final fitting to witness the bustling tutorial themselves. If they can’t be there, record a video of your seamstress walking you through it and have your person study the footage before the big day.

It’s a simple trick, but it helps your day run just a little bit smoother—and ensures there’s no chaos when it’s time to bustle your gown.

Try that, and follow along for more gown tips!
