Trend Report: Corset Inspired Gowns

a collage of high fashion couture bridal gowns with bodices that feature exposed boning and corset construction to illustrate the current trend in bridal fashion

While some aspects of bridal fashion are evergreen, every season we see subtle trends emerge. Trends in bridal gowns are different from ready-to-wear fashion in that they are far from obvious and never overpowering. Because ultimately the goal of a bridal gown is to feature the bride rather than the trends, it takes a keen observer to spot the repeated themes, features, and details that emerge each season.

When making our selections for our 2023 inventory, it was clear that designers were inspired by classic corset-making techniques. Exposed boning, sheer bodices, and shaped cups were a repeated theme throughout bridal fashion week. Some iterations of this trend were bold, sexy, and lingerie inspired, while others were more classic and reminiscent of historic fashion techniques. Our job was to respond to this trend by purchasing styles that expressed how our bride would choose to partake in this look. We opted for feminine styles with excellent construction, while still maintaining a timeless and classic look. Let’s take a look at some of our favorite new styles at House of White with a corset-inspired bodice!

a model showcases style 1488 by Martina Liana which features a floral embroidered fabric with a corset-style bodice and delicate spaghetti straps.

We can always count on Martina Liana to interpret bridal trends in the very best way possible, and this beauty from her new collection is no exception. Style 1488 is a sexy rendition of the corset trend without going over the top. With it’s structured neckline and delicate beaded spaghetti strap, the neckline almost creates a square shape (square necklines being another hot trend our brides are currently loving). This look is great for brides who want a unique gown that still feels very bridal.

The “Phoebe” gown is one of our newest favorites from Pronovias. Her strapless sweetheart plunged bodice features a sheer construction with subtle exposed boning. The corset-style top creates a flawlessly supported shape, and the beaded floral motif of the fabric enhances the feminine vibes of this stunner.

a bride wears lola by Made with Love, a fully beaded ivory sheath dress with delicate corset-inspired seamwork in the bodice and a beaded spaghetti strap.

Lola by Made with Love showcases a subtle-yet-striking execution of the corset trend. Sometimes all you need is some perfectly-placed seams to take a style from simple to stunning. The delicate construction of this bodice adds just the slightest extra detail in this already ornate gown. The whisper-thin straps enhance the lingerie vibes of this look without overpowering the wearer.

A model wears style 1517 by Martina Liana available at House of White Bridal Boutique in Newburgh, Indiana. The gown is a mock-neck long sleeve lace gown with three dimensional flower petals. throughout.

This classic beauty from Martina Liana proves that not all corset bodices scream “lingerie”. The exposed boning on this long-sleeve mock neck ballgown simply add an extra touch of couture detailing to the gown, giving it a timeless feel. It also cinches the natural waistline beautifully, contrasting the voluminous ballgown skirt.

Style 1497 by Martina Liana is corset styling at its finest. The sculpted cups and exposed boning are the star of this show, and perfect balanced by the softly draped blouson sleeve and a-line skirt. The contrast of the neutral lining showcase the details. However, if you’d like the corseting to be more subtle, swapping the neutral lining for classic ivory is an equally beautiful option!

A model wears style 1490 by Martina Liana featuring a corset bodice and delicate beadwork on an a-line silhouette.

And finally, style 1490 was actually one of our favorites from last season, but she gets extra points for being ahead of the curve :) This is a tried-and-true stunner that our brides have been loving. The detail is delicate while stilling having no shortage of wow-factor. The structured corset top creates a supportive and flattering fit at the bodice, and the notched neckline is an unexpected feature.

If the corset trend is one you’d like to explore, let us know! It’s important to try any style that catches your eye. You never know how you’ll respond to a gown until you see and feel it on you. Finding your bridal gown is an experience that is often full of surprises.

Happy Shopping!
